Staying at a Holgates holiday park gives you the advantage of a fantastic location that provides an excellent base from which to explore the beauty of the local area. We’ve spoken plenty of times about places you can visit in the Lake District and surrounding areas, but what about those days that you fancy staying withing walking distance? Well, if you’re planning on staying at our Bay View holiday park, take a look at some of the places that are right on our doorstep.
Squirrels Bar and Restaurant
Walking distance: onsite at Holgates’ Bay View park
Right on your doorstep is Squirrels Bar and Restaurant that serves delicious, locally-sourced dishes. Squirrels is perfect for the whole family with healthy children’s meals, live entertainment and sports bar.
During the week, you can choose from our growing range of homemade cakes, tray bakes, scones and pastries and our full menu on the weekends.
Carnforth Station Heritage Centre
Walking distance: 1.4 miles taking approximately 28 minutes
As the setting for the famous 1945 film Brief Encounter, Carnforth station is a popular attraction despite the fact that it is still a working train station. You can sit in the Brief Encounter Refreshment Room and immerse yourself in the nostalgia of the film which was released over 70 years ago or learn about life in the 1940’s in one of the exhibitions at the Heritage Centre.
On the same site, you can also find The Snug Micropub where you can enjoy a drink in the small but cosy setting.
Local Restaurants
Of course, we have a great restaurant on site at Bay View, where you can enjoy delicious meals. However, if you would like to venture out into the area, there are plenty of restaurants to sample. From Italian restaurant, Mia Italia (21-minute walk), to Asian restaurant, Trungs (14-minute walk), there are plenty of food establishments to choose from that are close by.
There are plenty of places to visit and things to see right on our doorstep, but if you fancy venturing a little further, why not read a few of our past blogs about local heritage sites and things to do in Kendal. Alternatively, if you would like to find out more about Bolton-le-Sands, the setting for our Bay View park, you can read about the history of the village.
