Holgates are proud to announce that they have chosen to support local conservation group Westmorland Red Squirrels for the next five years.
The eco-friendly business has agreed to support local red squirrel conservation to the tune of £1,000 a year for the next five years. With generous donations like this Westmorland Red Squirrels is able to undertake a programme of public awareness raising; holding regular talks and events throughout the year, encouraging people to log red squirrel sightings and to undertake a programme of grey squirrel control.
Holgate’s has always supported conservation at a local level, a fact that is reflected in the work they regularly carry out do to create natural landscapes for both human guests and wildlife visitors.
Work that has once more been recognised by a leading national conservation organisation as four Holgate’s Caravan and Camping Parks – Hollins Farm, Silverdale, Bay View and Silver Ridge, has each bagged a Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award 2015/16.
The ground staff working alongside habitat specialists and local conservationists have created a range of natural environments to encourage plant and animal life and enhance the natural beauty of the area. They have introduced bug houses, butterfly bars, owl boxes, carried out extensive sympathetic planting schemes using only native species, planted wildflower meadows and coppiced woodland where appropriate to encourage insects, bird life and animals.
Michael added: ‘’Holgate’s is a company that takes pride in its green credentials, we believe that supporting Westmorland Red Squirrels is another positive step in maintaining our natural environment for future generations. At a very local level we as a business also undertake to provide natural habitats for wildlife to ensure that we protect and enhance natural the beauty of the coastline of Morecambe Bay.’’
Geoff Hetherington, Chairman of Westmorland Red Squirrels, said, “We’re delighted that Holgate’s have chosen to support our charity in this way for the next five years. Visitors and local people love to see red squirrels and we’re determined to do all we can to ensure this much-loved native species survives and thrives.
