There are lovely walks you can go on with younger children in the Lake District to enjoy a sunny day out.
The Lake District is a beautiful, tranquil place filled with walks for the entire family to enjoy. Some of these might be a bit too steep or too bumpy for the younger children, however, and parents who want to enjoy a nice walk with toddlers or pushchairs can do so with walks with a more suitable terrain. Our parks are close to the Lake District and they offer various services like caravans, tents, and pods, so you can enjoy your holiday at your own pace.
Tarn Hows
The younger ones will find this walk very easy, as the man-made tarn is perfect for both their little legs and for the pushchairs. It’s surrounded by woodland and pines, and this mountain river has beautiful picnic spots for an amazing day under the sun. It has baby-changing facilities and an ice cream van, ideal for younger parents having a stroll with their younger children.
Rydal Water
William Wordsworth took much of his inspiration from the Lake District and his poetry features much from the beautiful woodland of Rydal Water. It’s one of the smallest lakes in the Lake District but the connections to the poet have made it a popular stop. Cote How and badger Bar are two little shops for the perfect snack stop, located at the end of the walk and on the main road in Rydal, respectively. The paths to the lakeshore are clear, with two National Trust car parks close by.
Loughrigg Tarn
Almost circular in form, this tarn provides beautiful views towards the Langdale Pikes. William Wordsworth described it as the “most beautiful example”, easily seen by the beautiful aquatic plants around the tarn’s margins. It’s located beneath the steep slopes of Loughrigg Fell, and accessible through the bridleway up through the houses at Tarn Foot. The grassy slopes are perfect for children to have a run around to take a break from the pushchair; do be careful to follow the little ones, as the edge of the tarn is very boggy.
