We celebrated 100 years of Caravans with BBC Countryfile. Featured in BBC Countryfile’s Spring Special, Michael Holgate sits down with Matt Baker to discuss the 100th anniversary of the caravan; and how Holgates has played a role in shaping the industry.
2019 marks one hundred years of the caravan, with caravans as we now know them first going into commercial production in 1919. Rooted in caravan manufacturing, the Holgate family have been at the forefront of caravans and the tourism industry, offering both quality manufacturing and the perfect place to pitch them since 1956, Middlebarrow Plain.
The last Holgate caravan came off the production line in 1964, marking the end of an era in manufacturing; and the start of a new one … providing the same quality service in the form of well-maintained holiday parks. Approaching it’s 63rd year, Holgates now has 10 holiday parks (updated 2023) and is well renowned for the pristine service provided.
BBC Countryfile recognised the significance of the work achieved by the Holgate family, throughout the generations, and wanted to learn more about the formative years of the caravan as we know it today.
