Whilst still at school, Katie joined our Food & Beverage team working in our bar and restaurant at the weekend and during school holidays “working as part of the food and beverage team was a fantastic opportunity to earn money and gain real work experience for the first time”.
A born people person, it came as no surprise that Katie quickly made the transition to our reception team to help our owners and give our guests a warm welcome as they arrive. Learning more about all of our parks, holiday cottages and the services we offer, being a part of our reception team was a very different role with a lot to learn “after my first shift on reception, I felt unsure as there was so much to learn and take in”. Following guidance from our team, Katie soon settled in to the role and continues to shine as she offers a 5-star service to guests of our flagship Silverdale Holiday Park, “to this day, I am so glad I made the choice to try something different and challenge myself.”
After completing her GCSEs, Katie continued in full-time education progressing on to A-levels. As well as additional education, Katie continued to balance work during the weekends and school holidays “I felt incredibly supported whilst doing my A-levels, Holgates were very accommodating with when I need flexibility with working hours and additional time needed to revise for my exams.”
After finishing her A-levels with Grade C in Sociology, Psychology and Religious Studies, Katie was unsure of her next step, considering both higher education at university and full-time work. Whilst deciding what to do, Katie decided to take on full-time hours over the Summer to see how she would find it and to build up some savings in-case she did decide to go on to university.
Thriving as part of our team on a full-time basis, but wishing to further develop her skillset professionally, we are delighted to be supporting Katie with her apprenticeship “I have just started a Business Administration apprenticeship through a local college, I am really enjoying the course so far and look forward to my future at Holgates.”
