Taking a holiday to the Lake District is a great way to get out and experience nature with very little effort. With so much going on and so many activities to get involved with, the majority of visitors to our holiday parks in the Lake District keep coming back for more, no matter what season it is!
We’ve already taken a look at what Arnside and Silverdale have to offer here on our blog, so this time we’re turning our attention to the Carnforth area where our Netherbeck park is situated.
As one of our most popular parks, we are often asked what attractions are worth visiting nearby and we always have our favourite three!
If a relaxing day in glorious garden surroundings is something that appeals to you, then we definitely recommend a visit to Leighton Hall.
This grand, historic home is open to the public from May – September every year and makes for the perfect summer day activity. With a guided tour of the luxurious house, vast, rolling gardens and access to a quaint tearoom which provides a variety of delicious refreshments, Leighton Hall is the perfect place to visit for those who want to relax.
There’s even a caterpillar maze and bird of prey display for the kids to get involved in; it’s much more than simply a stuffy old museum!
Warton Crag is one of the most naturally important areas of the North West, being one of the only limestone habitats to be as successful as it is in the UK. It is a notable reserve and is playing a huge part in the protection of various plants and wildlife in the South Lakes.
It plays host to wonderfully natural scenery which is home to some of the rarest butterfly species in the UK – the High Brown Fritillary and the Pearl Bordered Fritillary.
The landscape is dotted with a variety of beautiful wildflowers, giving the area a wonderful splash of colour as well as a beautiful fragrance.
It’s a popular destination for walkers, often acting as a starting point for people who want to work up to taking on the larger fells further on into the Lake District. It’s a fairly easy walk for beginners and gets you stuck right in to the natural beauty of the area.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a family with children or a couple on a romantic getaway, Greenlands Farm is always an excellent day out – no matter what age you are!
With an open farm where you can get up close and feed some of the most notable farmyard animals and a crafty artisan villages for you artistic types, there’s something for everyone to get up to.
There’s even a farm shop where you can buy fresh local produce directly from the farm themselves; from cheese to plants and wines!
