With the break nearly here, now is the perfect time to plan it. There is always something happening at Holgates and in the Lake District, so you’ll be spoilt for choice, and the little ones will have plenty of fun. Bring the whole family to Holgates and enjoy the best the area has to offer.

What is Going on at Holgates?

Our holiday parks in Lancashire are the perfect place to enjoy the February half term. With winter still in force, we understand you may be concerned about weather conditions; however, even if it’s pouring outside, we offer plenty of activities at our Silverdale facilities. From swimming to bowling, we have something to keep everyone entertained all day; we even have a soft play area where kids can have fun for hours on end.

Swimming – Our amazing 17m heated swimming pool will delight everyone in the family. If you don’t feel like doing some laps, you could simply head over to the spa pool, sauna or steam rooms. Plus, we also offer Aquafit classes three times a week and have a toddlers’ pool for the little ones to splash in. Our Kids’ Splash sessions will be running every day from the 17th February, except on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, when our Aquafit classes are on.

Bowling – If you’re feeling competitive, the 6-lane tenpin bowling alley is perfect for you. From adolescents to grandparents, everyone will love showing off their skills; this fully interactive alley even lets you show friends who is winning and losing through Facebook.

Soft Play Area – For the little ones, our soft play area is heaven. They’ll have fun bouncing, jumping and running about, and you’ll have the chance to take beautiful pictures that will last a lifetime.

And what better way to finish a full day of activities and fun than with a hearty meal and a pint at our Bar, Café and Restaurant?

Activities You Don’t Want to Miss!

There is also plenty to see and do in the Lakes during winter, and our parks offer the perfect base to explore the area. With easy access to various parts of the Lakes, you’ll have the opportunity to choose between more relaxed days spent at Holgates and full-on days where adventure reigns. Here’s a look at some activities you’ll want to participate in when you stay with us:

Hiking

The Lake District is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so you can expect beautiful landscapes that look even more dramatic during winter. Snowy hills and mountaintops complete the picture-perfect views. What better way to enjoy the fantastic winter wonderland than by going on a hike? There are several family-friendly routes you can enjoy, and these gentle walks are suited for everyone, from kids to grown-ups. Whether it’s a morning walk to invigorate you or a lengthy hike to breathe in the crisp, fresh air, we’re confident you’ll love these walks:

  • Sticklebarn Blea Tarn Trail – Safe and easy, this route is perfect for everyone. Not only will you benefit from amazing views of Lingmoor and Pike of Blisco, but the 1.8-mile trail can be completed fairly quickly too, allowing you plenty of time for other activities.
  • Easedale Tarn – This walk should take you a little over two hours and will take you from Grasmere to Easedale Tarn; even in winter, you shouldn’t find it too difficult. Enjoy the spectacular views from the summit, as well as a lovely waterfall on the way.
  • Sizergh Wildlife Walk – This family-friendly circular hike is ideal for anyone who not only wishes to take in the magnificent sights but also admires the local wildlife. Plus, Sizergh Castle makes the perfect backdrop for your family photos.

Tree Top Trek

We have to mention Tree Top Trek adventure, seeing as it’s the epitome of family-friendly activities. Your kids will have the time of their lives and plenty of fun stories to tell when they go back to school, once half term ends. Fly through the canopy, climb nets, experience ziplining, and just forget about the outside world. With 35 treetop challenges to discover, you won’t ever get bored of swinging and climbing.

Brave the Cave

Suitable for children over five years old, Brave the Cave is a fantastic activity your kids will remember forever. If they’re feeling adventurous, bring them to Brockhole to experience increasingly challenging missions that will take them inside a cave. They have to complete tasks, such as finding cave paintings and navigating passages in the dark – all perfectly safe, of course. They’ll even receive badges for their bravery.

Wray Castle

A Gothic revival castle sitting on the shores of Lake Windermere, Wray Castle and its grounds present another fantastic activity for the whole family. This half term, visit Ambleside and enjoy the gorgeous turrets and towers, as well as the informal grounds, which are perfect for history buffs and nature-lovers alike.

RSPB Leighton

On Friday 22 February, you will have the chance to enjoy free family activities with the RSPB at Holgates. Visit us from 10 am to 3 pm and your kids will spend hours making seedy bird cakes or getting lost on our nature treasure hunt.

Holgates is waiting for you this February half term. Have a hearty meal in our restaurant or enjoy our many facilities – we’re always happy to see you!
